Moa Lidén defended her doctoral dissertation in criminal law and psychology, “Confirmation Bias in
Criminal Cases”, at the Faculty of Law, Uppsala University, in 2018. Since then, she has led multi-
disciplinary research projects focusing on aspects of criminal evidence, such as DNA, forensic
medical opinions, and digital forensics. As a post doc, she has spent time abroad at the Department
of Criminology, Law and Society, University of California Irvine (UCI), and the Department of Security
and Crime Science, University College London (UCL).

Lidén is the author of “Confirmation Bias in Criminal Cases,” published by Oxford University Press.
She has also published studies with the titles “Child soldier or soldier? Estimating age in cases of core
international crimes” and “Can criminal justice be predicted? Using regression analysis to predict judges’
decisions on petitions for new criminal trials.”

During her Pro Futura Scientia Fellowship, Lidén will work on the project “Evidence-Based Criminal Law.”
This project aims to introduce a new field within criminal law that focuses on evidentiary questions rather
than legal paragraphs and principles. To this end, she integrates knowledge from fields such as forensic
genetics, forensic medicine, forensic anthropology, digital forensics, and information technology into
research products that are directly relevant to criminal law and procedure. This new field provides practi-
tioners with a scientific basis for decision making in criminal investigations and proceedings.
