Marco Saltini
Thunberg Fellow, SCAS.
Postdoctoral Researcher in Theoretical Evolutionary Ecology, Uppsala University
Marco Saltini is a Postdoctoral Researcher in Theoretical Evolutionary Ecology at the Department
of Ecology and Genetics, Uppsala University, and Thunberg Fellow at the Swedish Collegium for
Advanced Study.
In 2015, he received a Master's degree in theoretical physics of complex systems from Università
degli
Studi di Milano. He then moved to Amsterdam for his PhD studies in theoretical biophysics at
AMOLF.
He obtained his PhD degree in 2019 from Wageningen University, with the thesis: "Dynamic
reorganization
of microtubule networks: building the new by breaking down the old". During his PhD
studies, he developed
mathematical models aimed at understanding the mechanisms behind fundamental
processes in cell biology,
by making use of a theoretical physics approach. His research has resulted in
a
number of publications, including in Journal of Cell Biology, Physical Review E, bioRxiv, doi: and
Royal Society Open Science.
As a Thunberg Fellow at SCAS, Saltini will investigate the interplay between life cycle complexity and
the potential for evolutionary diversification, in order to assess the role of dietary shift of organisms
caused by their growth in the origin and maintenance of biological diversity.
