The Natural Sciences Programme

3) Measurable Man

Currently there is a rapid growth of the amount of available data describing our physical bodies,
our minds, and our status of health. The implications of this development - in how we view ourselves,
our life, and what makes life worth living - will be profound. Not only problems of a technical and
biological nature but also ethical issues will play an important role regarding how our bodies and minds
can be designed and transformed. The aim of this theme is to systematically survey these changes.
