Anders Hillborg Festival at the Stockholm Concert Hall
Composer and former SCAS Fellow Anders Hillborg is featured at the upcoming Stockholm International
Composer's Festival which will be held at the Stockholm Concert Hall between 13-20 November. The aim
of the festival, which has been arranged annually since 1986, is to bring attention to composers who have a
significant impact on the international music scene and to give the audience an in-depth portrait of the
composer's work.
Hillborg is
one of Sweden's leading composers of today and his music has been performed by renowned
conductors and orchestras across the world. His most recent pieces were premièred by the New York
Philharmonic (The Strand Settings, 2013), the Los Angeles Phiharmonic (Sirens, 2011) and the Berliner
Philharmoniker (Cold Heat, 2011). In total, five concerts with some 25 pieces composed by Hillborg will
be performed during the festival week.
Anders Hillborg was Composer in Residence at SCAS during the academic years 2010-11 and 2011-12. During
this time, he worked on both Cold Heat and Sirens. He also taught and directed, together with Steven Stucky
(Cornell University) and the Stenhammar Quartet, the first Master Class in Composition at the Collegium. The
Master
Class, which was held in May 2012, was co-organized by SCAS and the Royal Academic Orchestra,
Uppsala
University. A second Master Class in collaboration with Anders Hillborg is being planned for 2015.
