Grammis Award for Anders Hillborg's Sirens Album
The album Sirens, featuring music composed by former SCAS Fellow Anders Hillborg and performed
by the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra with conductors Sakari Oramo, Esa-Pekka Salonen
and David Zinman, has been awarded a Grammis 2016 in the category Årets Klassiska (the classical
album of the year). The Grammis Awards is the oldest and most comprehensive prize of the Swedish
music industry, recognizing excellent achievements in 19 categories (2016). It has been awarded since
1969.
Anders Hillborg is
one of Sweden's leading composers of today and his music has been performed by
renowned
conductors and orchestras around the world. He was Composer in Residence at the Swedish
Collegium during
the academic years 2010-11 and 2011-12. During
this time, he worked on both Cold
Heat, Sirens and O Dessa Ögon, three of the pieces on the award-winning album. The fourth piece on the
album is Beast Sampler. Hillborg also taught and directed, together with Steven Stucky and the Stenhammar
Quartet, the first Master Class in Composition at the Collegium, held in May 2012.
