Björn Wittrock to Be a Member of the Holberg Prize Committee for Three More Years

SCAS Principal Björn Wittrock will serve as a Member of the Holberg Prize Committee for
a second term of office. He has been one of the five members of the committee since 2014.

The Holberg Committee carries the responsibility for the scholarly assessment of the nominations
for the Holberg Prize. It consists of distinguished scholars - representing disciplines relevant to the
prize - from the international community. The committee members are selected by the Board of the
Holberg Prize and elected for an initial period of three years, with a possible three-year extension.

The Holberg Prize is awarded annually to a scholar who have made outstanding contributions to
research in the arts and humanities, social sciences, law or theology. The Holberg Prize was
established by the Norwegian Parliament on 1 July 2003, and was awarded for the first time in
2004. The Prize amounts to 4.5 million Norwegian kroner (approximately €538,000 or $735,000).
The prize is named after the Danish-Norwegian writer Ludvig Holberg, who excelled in all of the
sciences covered by the award.
