Anna Neubeck Receives Funding for a Project on Super Bio-Accelerated Mineral Weathering
Current SCAS Fellow Anna Neubeck and her colleagues have received a grant totalling approx..
35 million
SEK for a new interdisciplinary EU project titled “Super Bio-Accelerated Mineral
Weathering: A New Climate
Risk Hedging
Reactor Technology”.
Researchers from five universities in four countries - Belgium, Germany,
the Netherlands and
Sweden -
are
involved in the project, which will study how different kinds of organisms
may
cause
rocks to weather,
a
process which in turn reduces the levels of carbon dioxide in the
atmosphere.
The study may also increase
our understanding of how different organisms exist
and survive in the deep biosphere.
Anna Neubeck is Associate Professor of Geochemistry (Mineralogy, Petrology and Tectonics)
at
Uppsala
University. During the academic year 2020-21, she is a Natural Sciences Fellow in
residence at the Collegium.
