NordIAS
Nordic Institutes for Advanced Study
NordIAS is a network of eight institutes for advanced study in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden. It was established in 2023 following the successful completion of a series of workshops entitled Beyond Advanced Studies, organized by the Aarhus Institute of Advanced Studies (AIAS), the Swedish Collegium for Advanced Study (SCAS) and the Turku Institute for Advanced Studies (TIAS) and held between November 2021 and May 2022. The workshops were funded by a grant from the Joint Committee for Nordic Research Councils in the Humanities and Social Sciences (NOS-HS).
The founding members of the network are:
- Aarhus Institute of Advanced Studies (AIAS), Denmark
- Centre for Advanced Study at the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters (CAS), Oslo, Norway
- Danish Institute for Advanced Study (DIAS), Odense, Denmark
- Helsinki Collegium for Advanced Studies (HCAS), Finland
- Pufendorf Institute for Advanced Studies, Lund, Sweden
- Swedish Collegium for Advanced Study (SCAS), Uppsala, Sweden
- Tampere Institute for Advanced Study, Finland
- Turku Institute for Advanced Studies (TIAS), Finland
The aim of the NordIAS network is to increase collaboration among the institutes and affiliated fellows and staff. The recently established NordIAS Visiting Fellowship Programme offers all fellows at the eight member institutes the possibility to apply for a 1-3 week visit at one of the other institutes. In order to apply, one must have an active fellowship at the home institute at the time of the desired visit. The programme is intended to enhance the academic dialogue and network both for the fellows participating and for the institutes at large.
