Astrid Söderbergh Widding obtained her PhD from Stockholm University in 1992. She was Reader at the University of Turku in 1997 and is Former President of Stockholm University (2013-2025). She is Chair of the Nobel Foundation and Incoming Executive Director of the Marianne & Marcus Wallenberg Foundation (MMW) and the Marcus & Amalia Wallenberg Foundation (MAW). Before joining SCAS, she is a Fellow at the Stellenbosch Institute for Advanced Study (STIAS) (1st cohort 2025).

Astrid Söderbergh Widding’s research focus is on film aesthetics and theory. Her project at SCAS is titled ”The 7th Art – Cinema Studies Revisited”.
