Pär Zetterberg mainly does research in the area of comparative politics, with a focus on gender. His research covers issues such as candidate recruitment, political parties, electoral quotas, political violence, authoritarianism, and political representation. His research has been published in American Political Science Review, American Journal of Political Science, and Journal of Democracy,among
other journals. He is co-editor of the book Gender and Violence against Political Actors (Temple University Press, 2023).

At SCAS, he will work together with Elin Bjarnegård on a book manuscript tentatively titled Autocratic Genderwashing: Women’s Rights as Authoritarian Strategies. This book examines how autocratic leaders adopt gender equality reforms to appear liberal and democratic while diverting attention from persistent authoritarian practices.
