This is the primary source of information at SCAS. Important dates and events will also be posted on the screens in the entryways.
We encourage Fellows to share information about keynotes, awards and promotions, etc. with us. Not only is it very interesting for us internally but we would also be delighted to post it on the SCAS website and social media platforms. Please send such updates to Sandra Rekanovic
(sandra.rekanovic@swedishcollegium.se).

Postal Services
Outgoing mail is picked up from the Collegium after lunch on F ridays, except on holidays. If you have mail that needs to be sent earlier m the week, please let Pia Hultgren (pia.hultgren@swedishcollegium.se) know. Kindly use SCAS pre-labeled envelopes with a bar-code printed on them. Note that the name of the recipient's country should be written in Swedish. Place the letter in the box for "outgoing mail" located next to the elevator on the third floar of Linneanum. Thicker envelopes can be found by the communal primer on the third floar of Linneanum. Please use them together with the white SCAS address label ( with a bar-code) that you can find in the same place. If you intend to post a SCAS envelope in a regular mailbox outside of SCAS, kindly note that you will have to add a stamp.
For larger parcels requiring payed freight, SCAS can cover a cost of up to 2,000 SEK per Fellow and academic year. However, Fellows are responsible for possible customs declarations ( which can be found in the mail room). Questions about mail and posta! services can be answered by Pia Hultgren.
Your incoming mail will be placed on the shelf marked with your name, next to the elevator on the third floor ofLinneanum. Do not forget to check your mailbox on a regular basis, so that you do not miss important mail or interna! information.

Academic Life
Seminars and Other Academic Events
An important part of being a fellow at an institute for advanced study is the conversation across disciplinary and national boundaries. Weekly seminars serve as a focus of shared activities. Fellows are expected to give at least one seminar during their stay in residence and attend all other fellow seminars as well as the evening lectures given at the Collegium on a few occasions every semester.
Additionally, a range of other intellectual encounters, such as workshops and symposia, offer opportunities for interaction. The Fellow seminars are normally held on Tuesdays at 10:15 a.m. whereas other events may take place on other weekdays. All seminars are held in the Thunberg Lecture Hall (Thunbergssalen), located in our main building Linneanum. You will be asked to send in an abstract for your seminar/lecture beforehand. Handouts, or any other material that you wish to distribute at the seminar itself, must be given to the SCAS staff at least one day in advance. Power Point presentations must be given to Bjarne Graff (Room/Ext.301) at least one day in advance. If you have any questions about academic aspect of your upcoming seminar, or wish to discuss it, please contact Mattias Bofö us Blom (Room/Ext. 438) or
Christina Garsten (Room/Ext. 434).

Social Events and Excursions
During the academic year, there will be a few excursions to places of interest. More information is provided at the beginning of each semester. Fellows are expected to participate in the excursions.

SMOKING
ALCOHOL AND DRUGS

The facilities and botanical garden
The lights in the corridors are automatically turned on at 7:00 a.m., and turned off at 11:00 p.m.
Between 11 :00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m., you can turn on the lights manually. Since we have no caretaker at the Collegium, it is each Fellow's responsibility to make sure that their office windows are closed and that the front door is closed and locked when they leave the building.
If you would like to en ter or exit the Collegium outside of normal office hours, you may find that the gates to enter the Botanic Garden are locked. If this is the case, you can open them from the outside by holding your card in front of the reader. If you would like to exit from inside, there is a button to the side which can be pressed in order to unlock the gate. Please note that this only applies to the gates closest to SCAS, other gates in the garden do not have electronic locks. Please see separate map handed out on arrival at SCAS.

Smoking
Please note that smoking is strictly forbidden in all of our buildings. Y ou are permitted to smoke in the garden, as long as you respect the non-smoking zone within 15 meters from any of the buildings (according to the University policy, applies to all Uppsala University buildings). Please do not litter the grounds. There is an ashtray on the corner next to the kitchen en trance to Linneanum and another one by the wooden benches in front of Prefektvillan where you can put your cigarette stubs. At Villa Lugnet please use an ashtray from the kitchen when smoking outside.

Alcohol and drugs
Please note that drug use is strictly forbidden and that alcohol consumption should be limited to a moderate amount.
