- All interlibrary loans and document deliveries are free of charge, and will be sent to SCAS.
- A contact person at Uppsala University Library for all your questions.
Library Account/Card
A library account/card has been create for you upon arrival - attached to the card you get a note with your password and your pin code. If you want to change your password or pin code do so by logging in to "My Loans" at the library website External link, opens in new window.. (If you already have a library account as an UU Employee you continue to use that account, you are now registered as a SCAS Fellow on your account).
How to Borrow Books Using the Special Service
- Visit the library website External link, opens in new window.
- Request the books you want to borrow in the Library Search. You need to login to the library system to be able to make requests. Choose "Other/ Public User" (unless you also are an Uppsala University Employee).
- As pick-up location, you must choose Carolina Rediviva to get the books sent to SCAS.
- Library staff will collect the material that you have ordered, register the loans in the library loan system and send them to SCAS.
- As a SCAS Fellow it is possible to request books between all branch libraries belonging to Uppsala University Library, both those that are available in open shelves and those that are placed in closed stacks. If you choose "Carolina Rediviva" as the pick-up location they will be sent to SCAS.
- NB! The library system will send you automatically generated messages when the requested book is ready for pick. Please just ignore these messages.
- Deliveries of requested books to SCAS and pick-up of returned books will be on Tuesdays and Fridays.
- Printed journals are normally not possible to borrow. You need to go to the subject library in order to read and/or make copies at site. The Carolina Library will make exceptions for older printed journal volumes and lend them to SCAS for shorter periods. (N.B. this does not include the volumes in the Journal Reading Room ="TLS".)
Interlibrary Loans and Document Deliveries
- We use a service called Libris User-Initiated Interlibrary Loans. You create your patron account in LIBRIS (the national catalogue), and must choose the Karin Boye Library as your home library. When you have created the account, you can make your ILL requests directly in LIBRIS. If you cannot find the title you are looking for in Libris, please use the "Empty Request Form". You will find it in your Libris account in the upper right corner when you are logged in.
- You will find more information about how to create your user account in Libris and how to make interlibrary loans on the library's website - click on "Borrow and request" in the left margin and scroll down to the information about "Request interlibrary loans and articles" External link, opens in new window.
- Interlibrary loan staff will take care of your ILL requests; order them, register them in the library system and send them to SCAS when they arrive.
- The ILL service is free of charge for SCAS Fellows.
- NB! Please note that interlibrary loans and document deliveries will always be sent to SCAS.
- Every time you make an ILL request, the Libris system will send you several automatically generated messages. You will also receive a message when the book is ready for pick-up. Unfortunately these messages cannot be stopped, so please just ignore them. The book will arrive at SCAS after a few days.

- Loan Periods and Renewals

The Library at SCAS
The SCAS Library
SCAS houses several collections of books in various locations:
- Main Library: Located on the fourth floor of Linneanum, this small reference library contains encyclopedias, dictionaries, and other reference works. You also find books written by current and former Fellows.
- Journals and Periodicals: Found near the lunchroom, featuring a selection of scholarly journals.
- Swedish Fiction: Located in the music room in Prefektvillan, with books in both Swedish and English.
- Other Books: The attic room of Prefektvillan holds books donated by former Fellows for others to read and enjoy.
Fellows are required to provide SCAS with two copies of books worked on during their residency. Additional books authored by Fellows and donated to SCAS are greatly appreciated. Please deliver these to Astrid Sörbom (room 401 in Linneanum).
If you wish to borrow books from the SCAS library, contact Astrid Sörbom (room 401 in Linneanum) for registration.
