Villa Therese Andersson

In January 2017, SCAS extended its operations into another building, namely the beautiful early 20th-century villa often referred to as Villa Therese Andersson. This building is located just across the street from the Botanical Garden. Designed by architect Ernst Stenhammar, the villa was built in 1912–13. Its stylistic features, both exterior and interior, are characteristic of the Art Nouveau (Jugendstil) style of the period, with many signs of influence from the Arts and Crafts movement. In 2016, the building was carefully restored and renovated to provide modern office and living spaces while preserving its historical and cultural values. The villa is named after Mrs Therese Andersson, who, in 1910, donated 40,000 Swedish kronor to Uppsala University in memory of the late physics professor Knut Ångström. The purpose of the donation was to provide a private residence for the head professor of physics at Uppsala University. Over the years, the villa has been home to no less than two Nobel Prize laureates, Manne Siegbahn (Physics, 1924) and Kai M Siegbahn (Physics, 1981).
