SCAS Launches a Sabbatical Fellowship Programme

Recently SCAS launched a pilot project in which six Swedish universities (Gothenburg, Linköping, Lund, Stockholm, Umeå and Uppsala) were invited to nominate researchers for a sabbatical stay at the Collegium during the academic year 2025-26.
Researchers on a SCAS sabbatical are - just like the Collegium’s regular Fellows - given the opportunity to concentrate on their own research interests, free from the teaching and administrative duties of ordinary university life. At the same time, they are expected to be active members of the Collegium’s scholarly community and to participate in seminars and other academic events outside their own fields of specialization. The dynamic, multidisciplinary environment at SCAS also enables networking among researchers from all over the globe, as Fellows come from both Sweden and abroad. New ideas and future collaborations are possible outcomes that promises to gain not only the individual scholar but also his/her home department in the long run.

An evaluation of the pilot round will take place shortly. It will be followed by a Call for Nominations for the academic year 2026-27 in due course.
The first Sabbatical Fellows will be in residence during the spring of 2026 as Egil Asprem (Stockholm University), Peter Bergsten (Uppsala University) and Andreas Kirschning (Leibniz University Hannover & Uppsala University) join the 2025-26 cohort of Fellows.
