As the academic year 2026-27 begins today, we are welcoming a new cohort of Fellows to the Collegium and the SCAS community. The Fellows come from universities across the globe, represent a variety of disciplines and bring new ideas, new perspectives and new energy. Together they contribute to the unique environment that is an institute for advanced study.

The regular Fellow seminar series will start on Tuesday, 15 September, with a talk by Prof. Don Mitchell on the topic From Share-Farming to Ride Sharing: How Cucumber Farmers and Strawberry Workers in the 1980s Shaped the California Gig Economy in the 2020s. A week later, on Tuesday 22 September, this will be followed by a seminar by Prof. Grace Diabah, who will discuss Innovations in Akan Naming Practices: Reclaiming Indigenous Identity or Redefining Tradition?.

As usual, the seminars held at SCAS promise exciting insights into the diverse nature of the research projects conducted by the Fellows. Check out the full events programme for the autumn here. The seminars and most other events are open to the public.
