WORKSHOP -
Academic Freedom and Self-Censorship

Date to

By invitation only.

In an era marked by polarized discourses and new political landscapes, the concept of academic freedom faces new and complex challenges. This workshop will explore the critical issue of self-censorship: ways in which scholars may limit their research focus, modes of enquiry, teaching, or communications, due to the fear of controversy, professional repercussions, or hostile social media responses. The workshop is designed to stimulate discussion around how self-censorship operates across our research environments, and what we can do to uphold academic integrity and freedom of speech.

This is the inaugural workshop in a series of joint ventures between CRASSH External link, opens in new window. and SCAS, under the general title of ‘The North Sea Dialogues.’
