The workshop aims to discuss how large-scale socio-economic transformations toward climate targets can be accelerated while safeguarding fundamental democratic values such as representation, transparency, and accountability. Key questions are how climate transitions can be actively organized rather than passively observed, for example by way of identifying “coalitions of the willing” as drivers of change—configurations where frontrunner actors across sectors and governance levels mobilize resources, knowledge, and political will to accelerate transition processes. The workshop will explore both their transformative potential and their implications for democratic governance.
