Last week, SCAS Principal Christina Garsten attended the official inauguration of the Hernes-CAS Mobility Grant, held at the Centre for Advanced Study (CAS) at The Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters in Oslo.

On the festive occasion – in the presence of CAS Fellows and Board Members, representatives from SCAS (Christina Garsten) and the Paris Institute for Advanced Study (Olivier Bouin) and other invited guests - the first recipient of the grant, Rosie R. Bishop, gave a short lecture on her project on cereal crop productivity in prehistory. Gudmund Hernes inaugurated the mobility grant programme with a talk. Speeches were held also by Rolf K. Reed, Chair of the CAS Board of Directors, and Camilla Serck-Hanssen, Director of CAS.

The grant, which was developed in collaboration with Gudmund Hernes and is supported by the Hernes Foundation, targets researchers who are, or have been, PIs at CAS, and aims at strengthening international research networks and collaboration. As recipient of the grant, the selected scholar is offered a five-month fully-funded research residency at one of the two partner institutes, SCAS in Uppsala or the Paris IAS.

Bishop, who is Associate Professor of Palaeobotany at the University of Stavanger, will be in residence at SCAS during the spring semester of 2027.
