Afshin Mehrpouya

Professor and Chair of Accounting, University of Edinburgh Business School
Afshin Mehrpouya is Professor and Chair of Accounting at the University of Edinburgh Business
School. He trained as a medical doctor in Iran and also holds an MBA and a PhD in Management.
His research is broadly in the genealogy of ideas and the sociology of quantification in transnational
governance. He currently studies the construction and use of different calculative knowledge forms,
such as rankings and ratings, in regulatory regimes. The empirical fields in which he has explored
these concerns include financial regulation, socially responsible investments, access to medicines,
sovereign wealth funds and the Chinese social credit systems. Mehrpouya is a member of the editorial
board of Accounting, Organizations and Society.
